So..it’s that time of the month again when we delve into our makeup bags to grab the products we have loved and used for the month just passed. This month I only have beauty products to share with you as nothing fashion related really stood out to me in January. But not to worry I have some great picks to share with you this time round. I am trying to “shop my stash” as much as possible with the hope that I actually get to use the crazy amount of products I have built up over the last year. So with that in mind some of what is featured in this post is stuff I have owned for a good while and am using it and loving it again….other’s are slightly newer to my collection. So here we go….my January 2015 beauty favourites.
Anyone that follows us on Facebook or Twitter would know that I was in search of a new bronzer over the Christmas period and it was only by chance that I picked up the L’oreal Glam Bronze on a trip to Boots. I have to say I am pleasantly surprised with it. It gives a beautiful natural bronze to the skin. It is definitely not a contour product as it does have shimmer in it which would look caked and ashy in the contours of the face but it is a lovely powder for creating a sunkissed glow to the face, neck and decollete.
I decided to get the shade 06 Golden Bronze as this seemed to be the one to suit my skin better but there is a light option available. The powder blends effortlessly and lasts all day long. The perfect bronzer for a simple quick and easy glow. These bronzers retail for €14.99.
The next product I want to talk about is from one of my favourite brands Physicians Formula and it is one of their gorgeous blushers, The Happy Booster. This blush is described as a “glow and mood boosting blush”.
Not only does the beautiful blend of shades create a stunning radiance and rosy glow to the cheeks that will suit almost anyone but also the product contains Euphoryl which is said to mimic the effects of endorphin’s in the body. I am not so sure about the happy boosting part but it definitely makes me very happy to see my skin look glowing and fresh every time I wear this blush….does that count??? The brand is located around the country in different pharmacies and they are set to expand throughout 2015 to other pharmacies particularly in the Dublin area….cannot wait!!! These blushes will set you back around €16. Check them out whenever you get a chance, you will be surprised at how beautiful they are and how cute and user-friendly the packaging is, especially when you see the hidden brush and mirror compartment!!
Another blush that I pulled out of the stash this month and one that has been a firm favourite of mine for many years is the cult classic from Stila. Their convertible color in the shade Gerbera is everything you could ever want in a cream blush. It is the perfect peachy pink shade that gives the most amazing and healthy look to the skin that I have never seen from any other product. These products are designed to be used on both the cheeks and lips. I am a huge fan of multi use products.
The product itself feels almost tacky when first applied so it is best to tap the product onto the cheeks and glide it onto the lips for a very natural flush of the colour. On the cheeks this will last all day as it doesn’t stay tacky but it almost sets into the skin. It doesn’t last as well on the lips however but it is very easy to apply and not drying so reapplying can be done very easily without any fuss. There is a big range of different shades to choose from but for my medium skintone and my love for all things peachy this is the one that stands out for me. These retail for €21.50 which I have no problem paying for a product that has Holy Grail status for me.
The Hourglass ambient lighting powders are a big favourite of ours and we have used them to death at this stage but for something different this month I took the Bourjois Java Rice powder out of my powder collection to give it another road test. I did mention in an older post that this could be a possible dupe for the Hourglass powders and it is true that there are some differences which you can read about here but I have to say this month I have really enjoyed using the Bourjois equivalent and love the finish it is giving to my under eye area.
I will definitely be switching between the two brands in the future. This is a great alternative for anyone who wants to try a powder to set their under eyes but doesn’t want to fork out €45 for the Hourglass version. €13.99 for the Bourjois one is much easier to part with especially for the makeup novice or anyone on a budget.
As you can see so far I am all about the glowing complexion this month. For the last of the base products this month I am choosing one that has really helped me achieve this glow. Mac Strobe Cream is another cult classic that makeup artists and makeup fans love for years and years and I am no different.
This product is designed to completely wake up and recharge tired and lifeless skin. It is jam packed with potent botanics, green tea and iridescent particles to boost skin and give it a radiant glow. I have been using this as my primer for the last while and it really has made my foundation look natural and not flat on my face. If you are a fan of this product or just want to try it out you should check out the mini 30ml size which retails for €10 at Mac counters.
Next up I decided to include these two cream eye shadow sticks. I have used a cream shadow stick every day as a base for my eyeshadow or on their own for as long as I can remember now and these two are stand out products for me. The NYX Jumbo eye pencil in the shade 617 Iced Mocha is a beautiful bronzed taupey shade which lasts all day on the lids with no creasing (once you apply an eye primer beforehand) and for only €4.99 you just cannot beat it.
We both love the By Terry Ombre Blackstars and I added Bronze moon to my collection just after Christmas and have loved it ever since. However, at around €30 this do not come cheap. You can see from the above picture that there isn’t a massive difference in the colour of the By Terry(right above) and the NYX (left above) one.
I would say the By Terry has a more intense bronze to it and it has a beautiful sparkle in it that doesn’t fade throughout the day but at the same time the NYX are equally as beautiful, just not as intense as the By Terry alternative. It really comes down to what your budget and if you want to splash out on a more expensive alternative.
The last of the eye products for this month would have to go to the newest mascara from Benefit. I was lucky enough to preview and road test the product before it hits the shelves later this month. I adore this mascara. I was cynical when I heard that it would curl your lashes and hold the curl for up to 12 hours without any help from a lash curlers but I have not been disappointed. After application my eyes are wide awake and my lashes look naturally curled and fluttery.
I think the super wand on this mascara is the reason for the almost hard to believe curl that this mascara gives you and then the lasting power is down to the innovative formula of the mascara itself. I have heard people comment that the mascara is hard to remove but I have had no issue at all with this, infact I find it a doddle to remove. Roller lash will cost €26 when it launches very soon. Be sure to check it out if you are in the market for a new mascara or simply want a mascara that gives you curled lashes that last all day but look natural and elegant.
A favourites post wouldn’t be complete without at least one skincare item and the one that I have adored in January would have to be the Image Skincare Ormedic Balancing Lip Enhancement Complex….wow thats a mouthful!! This little beauty is said to enhance the appearance and volume of the lip contours. It is meant to increase moisture volume of your lips by up to 40% and also diminish fine lines around the area.
I didn’t expect it to plump my lips at all but I am not sure why I didn’t believe it because Image skincare never fail to meet their claims. So the answer is yes…I actually do see a difference in the plumpness and I definitely notice my lips feel so much more hydrated after using this product. It is simply amazing. I would say that you need to repeatedly use this to get the results it promises but once you do you will see the difference. Gemma would also agree with me on this one! This wonder product will cost you €23.50.
So there you have it. My January 2015 favourites. I know I had alot but I am a makeup obsessed blogger after all. Have you tried any of these products and what did you think of them? Also let me know what are your favourites for the month. If you have a blog please leave the link below as I would love to give them a read.
Have a lovely day and thanks so much for stopping by.
