I said at the beginning of January that I was on a makeup spending ban. Well….that didn’t go too well yesterday. Although some of what you see below was bought with vouchers I got for Christmas. I didn’t get a huge amount of stuff but I do think what I got is pretty gorgeous and I think you will all be very intrigued.
So let me show you all the loveliness….
First stop was Space NK on Grafton street where I went straight to the Becca stand because I knew just what I wanted. The Shimmering skin perfectors of course….what else?! I am a self confessed highlight addict, cream or powder I don’t care just give me them all. I am surprised I haven’t tried these liquid highlighters before but I suppose the €40+ price tag for one is a little bit excessive even in a makeup addicts books. But Space NK had a really fantastic set which contained three mini skin perfectors for only €25. I just had to have them.
The set contains three 5ml tubes with doefoot applicators on the end for very easy application. The shades you get are Pearl which is as the name suggests a pearl highlight. This looks perfect as a highlight for really pale skin tones but still works well on my medium skin. It is very subtle and definitely isn’t white looking at all on the skin. It is cool toned though which may not be nice on every skin. Pale skin gals will love this one. The next shade is Opal, probably my favourite of the lot and a cult classic from the brand. This is a a medium peachy tawny shade and look really lovely on my medium skin tone. I think this shade will suit anyone that is not ultra pale all the way up to a tanned skintone. It does add some warmt to the skin which is really nice for summer time too and for me this highlight would be the one that gives the most impact as it is packed full of light reflecting particles that bounce beautiful off your skin. The final shade in the set is Champagne gold. The name describes the shade perfectly, it is a very yellow gold shade. This is an exclusive to the set and cannot be bought as a full size. Although it is very yellow based it does not give off a yellowish glow to the skin. Once blended it leaves the skin with a beautiful natural radiance as opposed to a stark highlight.
So far I can see what the hype is over this product. They can be used as a highlight under foundation, on top of foundation or mixed in with your favourite foundation for a luminous glow. They perfect the skin and give it a beautiful radiance as opposed to shimmery or glittery look. These products will definitely feature in my makeup looks in the future so stay tuned. This little set costs €25 from Space NK….a great way to try the shades before buying the full size.
Another Becca product I have wanted to try for ages was their Mineral blush in Flowerchild so….. I decided to treat myself. This shade is just so pretty. It is a pinky coral shade that just screams summer to me. I already know this will get a lot of use in the coming months. It warms my skin tone beautifully while adding a pinched look to my cheeks.
These blushes really enhance any complexion as they have light reflective particles which instantly makes skin look more luminous and healthy. Isn’t this what we all lust after?? They also contain some really beneficial skincare ingredients such as Vitamin A, E and C. A blush that makes your skin look better while at the same time nourishes and conditions it. Sorted!! These blushes will set you back €33 for 6g of product. A higher price point than I would like but I just couldn’t resist.
After Space NK my next stop was the Charlotte Tilbury counter in Brown Thomas. I contemplated buying the Dolce Vita eye palette for months and any time I passed the stand I would have to have a swatch…..yesterday I finally caved and bought it (I did have vouchers!!).
There are four shades in this palette and they all have different jobs, prime, enhance, smoke or pop. This palette is designed to bring you from a day to night look without having to reach for any other shadows!
The prime shade is a champagne highlight shade. I personally use this on the inner one third of my lids and under my brow bone as a highlight shade. The enhance shade is my favourite of the bunch. It is a stunning warm toned reddish brown that especially makes paler eyes pop. I do like to wear this type of colour all over my lid and under my eyes to really allow the colour to stand out against my blue eyes.
Smoke is a darker brown shade that does have a slight shimmer to it. This shade is ideal to use as a liner shade for daytime use and to really smoke your eyes out for a nightime eye look add some of this to the outer corners for instant impact and drama. The final shade is the pop shade which is a glittery gold shadow that is designed to layer over another shadow to create some glamour. I love to concentrate these types of shades in the inner corner or gently press it in the centre of the lid for some sparkle. This palette so far has really impressed me even with a €50 price tag so stay tuned for a more indepth review of it coming soon.
Next I headed to boots because I had run out of my favourite L’oreal True Match foundation. I noticed that they were on special and so decided to try out some of the other products.
I got my trusted L’oreal True Match foundation. I have spoken before about this foundation. I love how lightweight it feels but it gives a really lovely coverage. The shade I am at the moment is N5 which isn’t an exact match but it’s close enough. I do find with this foundation that although there are tonnes of shades it’s hard to get an exact match for your skin but this one isn’t too bad for me at the moment.
I also needed a new powder so decided to try out the True Match powder, I got the shade N4 in this as it was the closest to my foundation shade. Like the foundation this is supposed to adapt to the colour and texture of your skin. The foundation does a great job of this so I am hoping the powder is just as good and also that it keeps me oil free all day long.
L’oreal is on 3for2 at the moment so I decided to try something that I wanted for a long time. The Glam Bronze is a beautiful soft and finely milled bronzing powder. I have loads of contour shades but very few products to just add a bronzed glow to my skin so I thought I would give this a whirl. I got the shade 06 which I think is the second darkest shade available. In hindsight I probably should have bought the lighter version but I am sure I can make this work. There is a sheen to this bronzer but it’s not very obvious on the skin. So far I am really impressed with this product.
As if the 3for2 offer wasn’t enough when I got to the till the lovely assistant told me that I qualified for a box of free goodies from L’oreal too. Chuffed!!! In the box I got a lovely red lippy, a white eyeliner (which I needed), a red nail polish and Volume Million lashes mascara which I wanted to try for ages. Oh and I also got a voucher for €5 off my next bottle of True Match. Seriously, what a bargain!!
The final thing I picked up in Boots was the “Brow this way” clear brow gel from Rimmel. I have never tried this but needed a new brow gel so thought I would get this and give it a go. I have not used this yet but I will definitely let you all know what I think of it.
So there you have it my recent makeup haul with a mini review of some of the products I have already used. Have you went makeup shopping lately? I would love to know what you bought yourself. Let us know in the comments below.
Thanks for taking time out to read my post.
Until Next time….Happy shopping
