Dermalogica Sound Sleep Cocoon

Before I start waffling, I want to tell you that this product was sent as a press sample, for consideration of review. You will see as you read on that I have given my 100% honest opinion and I have even gone a step further and teamed up with Dermalogica to bring you all a little giveaway. What if I told you you could wake up each morning with hydrated, brighter, revitalised skin? You would want to know how right? Well Dermalogica’s latest Sound Sleep Cocoon promises just that.

Sleep is most definitely an essential in everyone’s skincare routine. While we sleep our skin will revitalise and detox all the nasties we have come across during the day leaving us with a fresher, youthful appearance. We all know lack of sleep will only cause extra fine lines, dark circles and even dull skin. This latest innovation from Dermalogica works to not only promote sounder sleep patterns (by including essential oils in the mix) but it also optimises the skin natural recovery process to ensure the skin works extra hard during the hours that we do sleep.

How does it do that? Dermalogica tell us…..

Encapsulated essential oil with motion-activated technology encapsulated, motion-activated French Lavender oil, along with calming Sandalwood and Patchouli, soothe the senses with aromatherapy to help promote deep, restful sleep for healthier-looking skin

Albizia Julibrissin Bark Extract (Persian Silk Tree) reduces signs of skin fatigue and restores vitality

Evodia Rutaecarpa Fruit Extract (Fruits of Wu-Zhu in traditional Chinese medicine) provides visibly radiant skin by morning and promotes a more refined skin texture

Kakadu Plum Extract, rich in antioxidant Vitamin C, is clinically shown to improve and brighten skin tone.

Tamarindus Indicia (Tamarind Seed Extract) is a polysaccharide (can help reduce water loss) that cushions skin, creating a nourishing cocoon of comfort for softer, more hydrated skin.

This product should be used on a nightly basis as the last step in your skincare routine. It can be layered over other moisturisers to increase the benefits.

So what are my thoughts on this product?

I love the lightweight texture of this product. It is a gel-cream formula so it sinks into the skin so well. I really think this is an ideal formulation for oily, younger or blemish prone skin. Often night treatments can be thick which is not great for oily skin, they just feel too uncomfortable. Instead, this will give the hydration the skin needs but without feeling yuky on the skin. Don’t forget, oily skin still needs hydration.

For my normal/dry skin I find this works best layered over products. I love to use this after using a glycolic or lactic acid. Sometimes they can make your skin tingle and this totally soothes that. I also love to use it over my normal night cream on days where I really want to up my skincare. This isn’t enough for my skin used alone.

I would use this product for the scent itself. Anyone that has used it knows what I am saying. It smells like a spa and instantly puts me at ease. It really does relax me and has made my nighttime skincare routine more of a ritual than a chore. The motion activated encapsulated essential oils means that the little pockets of oils will burst on application as well as while you move around at night giving aromatherapy benefits while you sleep.

The packaging is also so cool. It is very easy to use, the twist and pump mechanism really allows you to not waste any product. It also ensures the cream stays fresh as it is housed in a lock tight container.

This is part of Dermalogica’s skin health range which means it is suitable for all skin types and conditions. However, you will see from the ingredients it does also contain some anti aging benefits which will brighter, fresher, more youthful looking skin.

So how much? Well at €86.50 for 50ml this product is most definitely an investment. I would suggest getting a sample of this and see what you think but I do feel like this is the perfect hydrating night cream for oilier skins. As it contains Vitamin C it will also really work to brighten the sallowness that people with oily skin tend to have. For all other skin types I would say this is not going to be enough as a night treatment so unless you will layer this I would suggest maybe looking at another night treatment from the range.

I did however see genuine results after using this layered over my acids or other night creams. Obviously, the other products underneath are doing a good job too or I wouldn’t bother having them in my skincare routine BUT I did see improved results after using this. As I said, grab a sample, you will be pleasantly surprised.

I personally think this product is innovative, unique and results driven. It just needs to be tailored to suit your individual skin type to ensure you get optimal results.
