Trust me. I have wasted more money on my quest to find the perfect hydrating serum than I’m willing to admit. So when I found some that ACTUALLY worked I was all over them. The book won’t stop here though! I am always looking for the next best serum so once I do find more I like I will keep updating this post with my new finds.
First off, what actually is skin dehydration ? This is an important point to start with because often people get confused with dry and dehydrated skin. They are very different and treating your skin for the wrong issue could have a knock on effect.
To keep it simple! Dry skin is a lack of oil while dehydrated skin is a lack of water. Even oily skin can be dehydrated. Your diet can have an impact on your skin’s hydration levels. Eat more fresh fruit and veg. Drink less alcohol and caffeine. Drink more water. Sounds simple right!?
You can also treat dehydration topically (by applying skincare) and that is where today’s post comes in.
Believe me when I say. I am a fussy f@cker when it comes to hydrating products. They need to work quickly and give great results for me to spend my time and money on them. So, you know these are all some of the best I have come across so far.
Just so I don’t sound like I am on repeat. All of these serums do all of the following. When I talk about them below I will talk about any additional benefits they have and a little about the product.
- Improve the look of the skin
- Reduce the look of fine lines
- Plump the skin
- Soak well into the skin (do make sure you exfoliate with a gentle exfoliator regularly though)
- Work well with other products such as Vitamin C, Retinol etc
- Feels really soothing on the skin
- All contain hylauronic acid which not only attracts moisture but also holds moisture in the skin reducing future dehydration
Dr.Derm 4 Hyaluronic Acid Serum (€22.50 for 50ml)
I came across this product when I was gifted it by Cosmetics Bulgaria. Since then I have bought 2 tubes of this myself.
Dr.Derm is actually now stocked in Ireland so it is much easier to get your hands on it. The brand will be rolling out to selected pharmacies early in 2019. It is available from Roches Pharmacy now (use code Adorn1 at checkout for a 15% discount, you will get this for €19.13). To keep up to date with the products and stockists list check out their Facebook page.
- Not tested on animals
- No parabens, minerals or alcohol (which would just strip the skin even more!!)
- Very inexpensive
- A little goes a long way
- Feels lovely to apply
The only one thing I am not a fan of in this product is the smell. It’s not the best scent. This also does leave the skin tacky which I kinda love but I just said I would mention it cause some people don’t like this feeling.
Declaré Ocean’s Best Hyaluron Triple Booster (€59,50 for
I am only using this for a couple of months now and I can genuinely say it’s the best I have tried to date and here is why:
- Your skin will look younger with this stuff! Honestly, it’s just amazing
- Smells beautiful
- No residue on the skin
- Skin looks radiant after use
- I always have a good makeup day when I use this before application (apply this and then an SPF)
- The packaging is very luxe. Although mine does tend to leak a little
There isn’t really anything negative I could say about this product. It is a tad bit pricey but after trying so many I would definitely pay the price again for this as it saves in the long run.
I did try find a stockist list but unfortunately I couldn’t find it. I know you can buy from their website, Cara Pharmacy stock it, Meaghers Pharmacy and Inish Pharmacy.
Thalgo Hydra Marine Serum (€51.40 for 30ml)
This is very similar to the Declare one so a great alternative if you cannot get your hands on that one. The one in the picture is a deluxe sample size as I ran out of my full size. I love the entire Hydra-Marine range from Thalgo, the gel cream is lush!!
- Smells so nice
- Really plumps the skin from 1st use
- Nice, easy to use packaging
This is pricey enough too but like the Declare one, it’s worth the cash.
Thalgo have lots of stockists. You can find them here.
The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5 (€6.80 for 30ml)
Right, let me just say. You are not going to get the same results you would get with the others above BUT this is definitely a good place to start if you want to try a hydrating serum or if you don’t have the money to fork out for the rest.
- Inexpensive
- Simple, fuss free and easy to use
- Packaging is simple and again easy to use
- Does a decent job for the price
I do have to say, although you do get 30ml product I seem to go through this a lot quicker than I would other 30ml hydrating serums. Just something to note. But as I said a decent place to start.
The Ordinary can be bought from their website, Cloud10 stock it, Beauty bay stock it and there are so many other stockists where you can buy this brand.
So, that’s all I have for now. Like I said I am still on the hunt for more amazing products to add to my tried and tested list so do let me know below if there are any that you love and I will be sure to give them a go and review them for you all.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you found this post helpful. I will do more posts like this if you are interested, just give me some ideas of what you would like to see below.
Thanks a mill
Anita xx
P.S. I bought of these products with my own money. I did receive my first Dr.Derm product as a gift from Cosmetics Bulgaria but as I mentioned above I have since bought more myself, that’s saying something right?
