Don’t you just love when something works for you. I kinda can’t believe I am only reviewing this concealer now. I’m using this years and have loved it from day one so I’m not sure what kept me.
Maybelline Eraser Eye Dark Circle Concealer is available in 11 shades (as far as I can tell), 2 of which are correctors/neutralisers (ill give you more details later on these). Up to recently they had a tiny shade selection available in Ireland but that has changed and now more skin tones can enjoy this treat.
Let’s just say, I have a very expressive face so concealers (and foundations for that matter) tend to settle into those expression lines much more than I want them to. I struggle to find a concealer that covers the darkness under my eyes but doesn’t over exagerate the lines. Anyone that tells you a concealer will get rid of your under eye lines is a kidder. Concealer will eventually, as the day goes on, settle into your lines. However, a good concealer should not make the lines that you have look any worse. That’s where Maybelline’s concealers comes in for me.
The texture of this concealer is so lightweight and very easy to blend. Although it does give me a very decent amount of coverage (medium to full I would say) it doesn’t tend to feel heavy, drying or cakey under my eyes.
I apply this concealer directly from the applicator and either tap it in with my fingers, brush or beauty blender. It does need to be set with a powder, I like to use translucent. I find if I don’t it can slightly wear off during the day.
I wouldn’t say this is the most hydrating concealer so be sure to use an eye cream before hand. This formula is suited to people who’s main concern is to not excentuate the lines under their eyes. Anyone that prefers a thicker consistency may not be the biggest fan of this. More mature, crepey eyes will love this .
As I mentioned this does need to be set with a powder for longevity but once you do you can be sure that you will remain concealed and fabulous for the full day. I often have my concealer on for 10 hours and I have no issues with it at all.
The packaging, although its dead handy for applying under the eyes the applicator is sooo unhygenic and a breathing ground for bacteria. However, Maybelline do claim that the applicator is treated with anti bacterial properties so I am willing to take my chances on this one. To be honest, I try to ignore this issue and just use it on myself and no one else. The applicator is too handy not to use it (whoops).
So, the colours I use are. Light is a fair few shades lighter than my skin so its perfect for creating a highlight under my eyes and down the centre of my face. Nude, matches my skin really well so I use this if I don’t want a highlighted look or if I want to cover blemishes etc. The Neutraliser is a yellow toned concealer that is perfect for correcting any darkness under the eyes. This in particular is brilliant for highlighting too. I do prefer to use yellow toned concealers on medium/olive skin tones. If you have fair skin the Brightener is a great alternative. It has a pink under tone and does a similar job of disguising any dark and dull looking skin. Pinks are also great for correcting blue tones so if you have any darker blue veins this can help to hide them.
This is my go to concealer and has been for so long. It’s the one I know will not fail me and because it is so easy to use I find it amazing for using when I am in a rush. Could this possibly be my favourite concealer to date?! I think so…
The Maybelline Eraser Eye concealers cost €11.99 and are available in so many stockists including Boots.
