REVIEW: Sleek Face Contour Kit

Makeup artists have used contouring techniques on their clients for a very long time but it is only in recent years that it has become very popular with non-professionals. Contouring, when done right can enhance your best features, hides the ones you don’t like as much and even slim down a person’s face no end!

But contouring doesn’t have to be extreme and unnatural looking nor does it have to cost you a fortune. My favourite product for contouring is the Sleek Face Contour Kit. This little kit has all you need to create a nice chiseled look without looking overdone and muddy!!!

In this kit you get a really decent sized brown powder which for the most part is matte but on close inspection I did spot a small bit of glitter but it is not obvious on the skin at all. This contour powder is fantastic for carving out your cheekbones or adding shadow under your chin to slim down the area. Actually come to think of it, it has a host of different uses. You also get a really pretty champagne shimmer powder which can be used to highlight the cheekbones and other areas where you want to draw light to (a.k.a the high points of your face). The powders are smooth and in no way chalky. They blend effortlessly and don’t leave that awful muddy look to the skin like some other products do.

I have tried alot of high end bronzers for contouring and some of the best highlighters on the market but I am always drawn back to this fool proof product. I believe everyone will benefit from having this in their makeup collection. Whether you are a newbie to makeup or are a professional makeup artist this will soon be a favourite of everyone.

This kit is great to take on the go aswell as it’s very compact with a decent size mirror that takes the hassle out of touching up in a hurry! The packaging itself is very simple but I like it like that. It is black and “sleek” and really feels sturdy to touch so you wouldn’t be afraid to pop it in your handbag.

I have used the light kit in this picture and applied the dark shade to the hollows of my cheeks, on the top of my forehead,on my temples and under my chin. I used the light shade on my cheek bones and under my brow bone.

I also use this kit to touch up my eye makeup if I have nothing else to hand. I use the highlighter under my brow bone and in the inner corners of my eye and also the contour shade is great for adding some depth to the eye socket.

I don’t want to go too much into how to contour correctly in this post as I don’t want to take the emphasis off how great the Sleek Face Contour Kit is but the below picture is a little idea of how to contour. The dark areas are where you should add the darker shade and the light areas are where you should highlight (the pink area is where blush should be applied to achieve a sculpted look). Always remember to start with a very small amount and blend all the time adding a little bit more if you feel you need to until you get your desired look. If you want more extreme contouring like the look that Kim Kardasian has made oh so famous I would recommend using a cream based kit or concealers to achieve this look as using powders can be very unnatural and powdery looking.

With this kit you can go as dark or as light as you wish depending on what look you want to achieve. In the picture above I am wearing the light kit as I was just going shopping for the day but I do have the medium kit too for nights out. The kit is also available in Dark so most skin tones should find what they need in the range.

For contouring I would suggest using a soft haired brush so that the product can be worked into the skin more evenly. My suggestions would be the Mac 109 or the Real Techniques Blush Brush (sold individually) or the Contour Brush from their Core Collection. All work well and do a great job. To apply the highlight shade I like to use a fan brush but mainly I use my fingers as this way I can place the product exactly where I want it!

Mac 109-Great for applying your contour shade as it fits nicely into the hollows of your cheeks

You can probably tell I am a big fan of this product?? I really think it’s so inexpensive but the quality of the product rivals all the higher end brands which I have tried. The best thing is a little goes a long way and it lasts all day long on your face so there is no need to worry about the colour fading on you.

You can buy Sleek products from their website where they ship worldwide or Boots.ie is now stocking it. If you would prefer to see the products in person selected Boots stores (UK and Ireland) and Superdrug in the UK stock the range. This contour kit is very easy on the pocket at only €7.99/£6.49 for 14g of product….not too bad hey??

Will you be adding this kit to your makeup bag? Have you tried any sleek products? What are your contouring must haves? Be sure to let me know in the comments below!

Also, please let us know if you would like me to do an in-depth post on contouring with both cream and/or powder products.

Have a great day and Happy contouring.
