One of the top questions people ask me as a blogger and makeup artist is “What foundation would you recommend for my skin type?”. Often people do not want to spend alot of money on foundations so if I am not telling them to buy L’oreal True Match (which is my favourite) then I normally send them to the Rimmel stand. Rimmel have a vast array of foundations to choose from and at really reasonable prices.
However, for someone that is not as obsessed with makeup as I am, I am sure a trip to the stand can be a little overwhelming. Today I am going to give you the lowdown on each of the foundations offered by Rimmel as well as what type of skin they suit best and what coverage/finish you will get from each of them.
I want to make this post as easy as possible for you all to understand so please excuse the bullet points.
- Foundation: Wake me Up Foundation
- Claims (according to Rimmel): Instantly reawakens skin with a healthy, radiant glow. Light, moisturising texture applies smoothly and leaves skin feeling soft and comfortable all day. Gives an instant flawless, natural-looking finish. Visible anti-fatigue effect with peptides and a Vitamin Moisturising complex.
- Finish: Light texture, glowing, radiant and healthy look to the skin
- Texture: Almost a gel like consistency that is super lightweight on the skin
- Coverage: Light to medium….can be build up to a nice medium coverage in areas
- Lasting Time: Approx 5 hrs, can get oily later on in the day.
- Skin Types best suited to: Drier skins as it is packed with moisturising properties. Combination skin can use this but be sure to powder the areas where you get oily. Also may need to top up powder during the day. Definitely avoid this one if you have oily skin.
- SPF: 15
- Price: €10.99
- My thoughts: Overall, a really lovely foundation to create a beautiful natural and radiant complexion. However, my skin tends to break out with this foundation so I only wear it every so often. There is a strong perfume scent to the foundation and it definitely does contain some tiny glitter particles which is probably the reason for the breakouts. I do prefer this foundation for natural makeup days as it is very natural looking.
- Foundation: Match Perfection
- Claims (according to Rimmel): Light perfecting radiance foundation. Traceless coverage for perfectly flawless skin under any light.Lasts all day.
- Finish: Satin finish, not too matte and not too dewy. Just a nice in between finish. Natural and radiant on the skin.
- Texture: Silky, feels almost creamy but lightweight
- Coverage: Medium
- Lasting Time: 5 to 6 Hours
- Skin Types best suited to: Best suited to drier skins but suits most skin types except really oily. Be sure to powder any areas that get oily during the day.
- SPF: 18
- Price: €9.99
- My thoughts: I really like this foundation when first applied but it can get quiet oily as the day goes on. It does adapt very well to your skin thanks to the advanced smart tone technology. Again there is a scent to this that might not be everyones taste. This isn’t my favourite foundation from Rimmel but again it is nice for daytime use and for a natural look. I als. don’t think it stands up to the claims of lasting all day,
- Foundation: Lasting Finish Nude
- Claims (according to Rimmel): Medium coverage foundation that feels hydrating and moisturising. Lightweight formula blends instantly into the skin creating a nude, poreless effect. Sweat, heat, humidity and transfer proof for up to 25 hours
- Finish: Velvet perfected and radiant finish
- Texture: Light creamy texture that sets on skin once buffed in
- Coverage: Medium but buildable in areas
- Lasting Time: Approx 8 hrs
- Skin Types best suited to: Most skin types, be sure to powder oily areas
- SPF: 20
- Price: €8.99
- My thoughts: This is one of my favourite Rimmel foundations even though it is one of their latest launches. This gives a very natural but perfected look to the skin and lasts great on the skin. I love the look of my skin when I wear this. Definitely one to look out for in my opinion. It is a lighter, more runny texture than the original Lasting Finish Foundation and just a word of warning the the shades are also lighter in colour to the original foundation so you may need to go a shade up with this foundation. The claims of being sweat and heat proof I am not so sure of though. It tends to melt on me if I am I am very very warm, but it is great for Irish weather as let’s face it. We don’t get really hot weather that often!
- Foundation: Lasting Finish
- Claims (according to Rimmel): Instant perfect coverage that feels extra comfortable and lasts all day. Blends flawlessly, seamlessly, instantly and easily into the skin. Sweat, heat, humidity and transfer proof for up to 25 hours
- Finish: Demi matte finish
- Texture: Creamy dry sticky texture
- Coverage: Medium to Full
- Lasting Time: Approx 8-10 hrs
- Skin Types best suited to: Most skin types, be sure to powder oily areas
- SPF: 20
- Price: €8.99
- My thoughts: I used to love this foundation and I do still like it but after comparing this to it’s Nude alternative I am not as impressed. I find this a lot drier on the skin and I find it accentuates my pores a lot more. It does last a little longer than the Nude equivalent and it does give a fuller coverage. So depending on what you are looking for then this could be a good choice for you.
- Foundation: Stay Matte
- Claims (according to Rimmel): A Feather-light, liquid mousse that blends flawlessly for natural-looking and an all day shine control. Silky smooth formula for a perfectly matte, baby-soft finish. Lightweight texture won’t feel heavy or greasy. Minimises the appearance of pores
- Finish: Matte but almost radiant
- Texture: Silky mousse like but lightweight
- Coverage: Medium to Full
- Lasting Time: Approx 8-10 hrs
- Skin Types best suited to: Combination to oily skin. A little drying for drier skin types.
- SPF: None
- Price: €7.79
- My thoughts: This is probably my favourite Rimmel foundation. It gives a really beautiful mattified but almost glowing look to the skin. It has great longevity on the skin. I also love the tube packaging as it means I can get every last drop out of it. In my eyes it stands up to all it’s claims and for €7.79 what more could we ask for?!
Overall, if I had to choose one foundation it would definitely be the Stay Matte for the oily skined girls and for the girls with skins on the combination to drier side the Lasting Finish Nude would be my top pick.
A word of warning though. As you can see from the above picture although all of the shades I have swatched above are 200 Soft Beige there is a big difference between the shades. I would recommend not assuming that you are the same shade in all of Rimmel foundations. It’s best to colour match yourself if you are changing foundations.
I hope you found this post helpful and it will make choosing a Rimmel foundation a little easier the next time you visit one of their stands. Rimmel do also do some BB Creams which I will review for you in a later post.
Have a good day
Big Kisses
