Top 5 Game Changing Curly Hair Products

Yay, Finally it’s my first curly girl post on my blog! Can I get a woohaa???!! I thought, for the first post it was best to keep it simple by chatting about my absolute must have products that either have changed my hair game recently or are OG products for me. Also, I do think most of these products (bar maybe one) are Curly Girl approved, just incase you are following that method.

My hair is naturally curly and although I do have a lot of hair it is actually quite fine so I like products that are lightweight and don’t weigh my hair down but at the same time are moisturising enough to give my curls what they need.

Shampoo and Conditioner

AS I AM Coconut Cowash

Total game changer for me. This product is a cleansing cream conditioner. So, technically it is not a shampoo but you should use this as a replacement for that step in your routine. This will gently, but effectively cleanse your hair and scalp. As it doesn’t use sulphates or any harsh detergents this will not strip your hair of oils. Instead it adds back in hydration leaving your hair looking fresh, manageable and at it’s best.

I use this most of the time when I wash my hair. If I feel I have product build up I would probably wash my hair with a normal shampoo but other than that, this is the only hair cleansing product I use. This does not lather so it’s hard to get used to but once you do you will love it. Applying water to this product helps work it into the hair. I use a palm size amount and I work it mainly into the roots and only drag the residue down to the ends. I do the reverse with my conditioner.

I think Superdrug does stock this but I tend to buy mine from LookFantasic as it’s cheaper. It costs €11.95 for a huge 454g of product. Oh, did I mention, this smells UNREAL!!

Biolage Hydra Source Conditioner

This is another Curly Girl approved product. A word of warning though! Make sure it is this conditioner and not the mask from this range as it’s not great for curly hair in my opinion! Again, I buy from LookFantatsic and this costs €10.45 for 200ml.

This is just a really good conditioner. It is lightweight and very hydrating. It compliments the Cowash well and leaves my hair feeling so good. I tend to use this just on the ends and not the roots. Leave on for longer if you want extra hydration but I find it works just as well when left on for 1 minute.

Styling Products

Semi DiLino Cristalli Liquidi

After I have finished cleansing and conditioning my hair I will apply this product to damp hair and brush it through. Brushing makes sure that the product coats every single hair strand. This is an invaluable tip I picked up on my curly hair journey.

So, this product is a mix between a serum and an oil. It is absolutely weightless and because it creates a film over the hair it definitely helps control frizz especially in humidity and works to help general dryness. I also feel this makes my hair more glossy looking. I definitely notice a difference if I don’t use this product.

I also use this when my hair is dry. It’s great after you have dried your hair to tame any frizz that remains. It is also a great one for top ups on dry hair when you want a quick refresh.

This product is exclusive to salons but definitely worth finding if you can. You can check out your nearest salon here. There are also some online stores that sell the product (here and here ). This will set you back around €18 depending on where you buy it. Seems expensive, but it’s totally worth the money and lasts a very long time.

Pantene Pro-V Mousse Defined Curls (Hold Level 05)

Once I have applied my serum (above) I will pop a palm full of this mousse throughout my hair and again brush the product thoroughly through my hair (see end of post for my current fave brush). I don’t tend to add any other products. You can add the gel I mention below but I get enough hold from this mousse.

When I have brushed this through, I will scrunch and then leave my hair for around 20 minutes before I dry my hair on a low speed with my Dyson. I do find this works better when you add a small amount of heat after leaving it settle for 20 minutes.

This gives serious definition, volume and hold! Honestly, this is the BEST mousse I have ever used!!! And it only costs €5.80 for 200ml. It is available from Boots and Tesco also stock it. You will find this in most places that stock Pantene actually. This is curly girl approved.

Umberto Giannini Curl Jelly

This is an OG product. I am using this absolutely years and will honestly never not have this in my routine. So this can be used mixed with a small amount of mousse on curly hair , on its own on damp hair or on dry hair to tame frizz and revive your curls.

I use it all three ways but at the moment I am using this only on dry hair and it works amazing. But it does work just as well on wet hair. I just prefer the volume a mousse gives me.

This adds lovely shine and redefines your hair on the go. If you ever meet me ask me have I got this in my handbag, I guarantee I do!!

This is exclusive to Boots and costs €9.49 for 200ml. It is also Curly Girl approved.

Wet Brush Detangler

I know, I said 5 but I had to throw in this hair brush because without it, the products above don’t work as well.

Ok, so the Wet Brush in general is the way to go for curly hair. We only brush our hair when wet and using a normal brush can cause breakage to the hair when used on wet hair. So, get yourself a wet brush.

I love the Detangler because it has loads of space between the bristles which separates the curls giving way more definition. This brush works through tangles so less pain (if you know, you know).

This one is the Go Green Detangler which has a biodegradable handle which will break down within 5 years in a landfill. Not only are you protecting your hair but also the environment. Get on it, trust me.

The Wet Brush Go Green Detangler costs €12.99 and is available from Roches Pharmacy and other selected pharmacies. You can use code Adorn1 on Roches for 15% off (not an affiliate link).

So, there you go. My top 5 (plus 1) curly hair products. What is your favourite? Let me know below what I need to try next. Thanks for stopping by.

Thank you for this interesting review, Anita! Just started reading your blog (came searching for reviews on something else and got hooked 🙂 ) – and look here! Curly girls products are always interesting for curly girls, right? Now I want to try both coconut cowash and serum-oil (mostly because of the looks of it – works on me every time). My hair is rather thick and heavy and has will of it’s own and I am always on the mission to find a good curl-definer/booster that really improves and empowers naturel curls and not just keeps made ones in their shape.. Meanwhile the best for me is The Catcher from DOOP – sort vax/cream that gives curls a boost and keeps them in shape without too much of fix (like hair sprays or gels do). I use it on almost dried hair as a last step a very little amount first rubbed between palms.
