Watch Your Language

Have you ever heard the saying, ‘What you give out, you get back’? For the most part I try to live my life based on that. I am always aware that the universe has a funny but VERY real way of rewarding us for the good we do and equally letting us know when we have done something less good.  The same goes for our words and the language we use. Spoken AND Unspoken words are communication with the universe. If you talk negative to yourself or to others the universe will listen. That’s why the words we choose to use, particularly to ourselves are so important.

Gandhi’s Word’s say it all. “Your beliefs become your thoughts, Your thoughts become your words, Your words become your actions, Your actions become your habits, Your habits become your values, Your values become your destiny.” You can see how quickly those negative words can lead to a negative life.

So, let’s switch that. What if we spoke and trained ourselves to think and talk positive words as much as possible? Yes, you’ve got it. Our destiny and the life we lead all of a sudden looks a lot more positive.

I am not saying this is easy by the way. But that’s where I come in. I have (for the most part) trained myself to be as positive as possible. Here are some of the tips I have picked up along the way.

  1. Write out your feelings before you say them to anyone. See if they make sense and are respectful. Seeing the words in front of you often makes you connect more with them. I have often been embarrassed by some of my thoughts! Most of the time you will notice that our negative thoughts are irrational and not based on logic. If this is the case then scrap them!! Put a big X through the thought and move forward. That brings me nicely on to my next point.
  2. Reframing your words is a great way of switching the mind to a more positive state. For example if you say ” I am stuck in a rut and cannot get out” say ” I am open and willing to embrace change” or ” I am always broke” change this to ” I have now and always will have, an abundance of money”. Like I spoke about many times before. You must also believe in the words you area speaking. Even if they are not reality at the moment, we now know that they most definitely can be if you believe in them enough.
  3. Affirmations are my favourite way to start the day. I have spoken here about their benefits before. Check out my instagram stories and highlights for lots of positive affirmations (Adorn.ie) . These are a very easy way to change your language.

Again, I am not saying this is going to be easy. If you are naturally a pessimistic person then this can feel very overwhelming but it is so important to train your mind to think more positivity. Negativity has so many adverse reactions on our brain and our body that it is crucial we make those changes.

Make a promise to yourself. That from here on out you will ‘try’ to speak only positive language to yourself and to others. There are times when we need to vent and need to be abrupt but we can do this with less harsh words. If you make a mistake, that is totally ok. Recognise it, learn from it and move on!! The more you get into this habit, the easier it becomes. Remember, “Your habits become your values and your values become your destiny”.

It is up to you! Watch your language!
